However, choosing the right propulsion system directly affects maneuverability, legal classification and overall experience. We present a detailed technical comparison of stationary and mobile solutions.

1. Stationary bases: Peace and stability without own drive

For luxury floating residences ("Floating Residences") and permanent hospitality facilities, the most common and cost-effective solution is a stationary base. These objects do not have their own engine.

Instead of investing in propulsion, the focus is on “off-grid” infrastructure and advanced anchoring systems (such as pylon spud or ecological screw anchors). Stationary facilities are towed to their concession location using work vessels (such as our 9-meter HDPE Landing Craft ships). The advantage of this approach is the maximum use of space on the deck and much simpler administrative registration, given that the object is classified exclusively as a stationary floating object, not a motor vessel.

2. Mobile Solutions: High Thrust Outboard Motors

If your vision includes a moving party boat or exclusive lounge bar which moves from bay to bay as needed, the facility must be motorized. However, pushing a massive platform weighing tens of tons requires a specific approach.

Standard outboard motors are designed for planing light vessels at high rpm and are completely useless here. The solution is to install independent “High Thrust” outboard motors. These engines are equipped with specific gear ratios (lower rotation speeds) and extremely large diameter propellers. They do not produce high top speed, but enormous thrust (thrust) at low speeds. Two such motors, strategically integrated into the HDPE base, enable reliable and safe movement of heavy modular objects around the water area.

3. Ultimate power: Hydraulic thrusters (Thrusters)

For the largest and heaviest platforms with huge superstructures (or for our heavy work vessels), we move to industrial-grade propulsion: hydraulic thrust systems.

Instead of conventional outboard motors, a powerful internal diesel engine (such as a 6-cylinder engine) is installed inside the platform (or workboat) paired with dual high-flow hydraulic pumps. This high-pressure system drives external hydraulic thrusters that can rotate a full 360 degrees. The result is incredible maneuverability – the platform can rotate around its own axis or move sideways within a centimeter, regardless of strong winds and waves.

4. Hand control: Wireless "Belly-pack" controls

Steering a vessel ten meters wide and shaped like a rock from a single fixed wheelhouse creates huge blind spots, making docking extremely dangerous and stressful.

To eliminate this problem, we equip our mobile platforms with professional wireless remote controls ("belly-pack" controllers) which are worn around the waist. Instead of being trapped at the helm, the captain can walk freely all over the deck. When docking, the captain literally stands on the very edge of the platform, looks directly at the pier or another vessel, and using precise joystick on its “belly-pack” it perfectly controls the power and direction of the thrusters. This is technology directly taken from large industrial tugs, now applied in luxury tourism.

Conclusion: Adapting to your business plan

Whether you want a permanent oasis of peace anchored on pylons or a high-tech mobile platform that you control remotely from your deck, our HDPE modular base adapts perfectly to your requirements.

Would you like to find out which propulsion system best suits the weight and purpose of your facility?
