To make a floating Mediterranean house, luxurious lounge bar or a stationary platform has functioned flawlessly for decades, the beauty of the location must be aligned with the strict laws of physics.

Choosing the right microsite requires in-depth engineering analysis. Before construction begins, any serious marine project must take into account three key natural factors: wind action, sea currents and the configuration of the seabed.

1. Wind rose and superstructure aerodynamics

The Adriatic coast is known for its specific winds, especially the strong bora and the strong judo. When choosing a microlocation, it is necessary to analyze the local “wind rose” to determine the directions from which the strongest gusts come.

Wind creates pressure on the platform superstructure. The taller the object (e.g. a two-story house or a bar with large awnings), the greater the aerodynamic resistance. Therefore, before installation, each object is analyzed in detail through advanced 3D CAD models in SolidWorks software. Wind resistance is precisely calculated through computer simulations, and the platform is oriented within the concession polygon so that its profile offers the least resistance to the strongest dominant winds at that specific location.

2. Sea currents, waves and hydrodynamic stability

Besides the wind, the strength of the sea presents the greatest challenge. Bays that seem calm in summer can become exposed to strong sea currents and waves in winter.

In order for the object to remain perfectly stable, the hull design plays a crucial role. The hull of our platforms is built from robust HDPE hexagons (1.2 meters high and 20 mm thick panels). This specific multi-chamber hexagonal design is excellent at breaking and absorbing wave energy, unlike flat surfaces that suffer strong impacts.

Furthermore, if the microlocation occasionally suffers from asymmetric sea currents, stability is additionally ensured by the integration of an active PLC ballast control system. Real-time sensors read the impact of the sea and automatically pump over the liquid ballast, keeping the rig in a perfectly horizontal plane.

3. Bathymetry: Depth and bottom configuration

The depth of the sea (bathymetry) and the type of seabed (sand, mud, rock) directly dictate the choice of anchoring system.

For shallower areas and protected bays, we avoid using massive concrete blocks that permanently damage the seabed and posidonia meadows. Instead, advanced fixing pylon systems are used (spud poles) that pass through the hull of the platform and rest on the bottom, ensuring a fixed position. For deeper micro-locations, ecological anchor systems are designed, adapted to the specific composition of the seabed, so that the object remains within the approved coordinates regardless of weather conditions.

4. Combining engineering and authentic aesthetics

The ultimate goal of a perfect microlocation is for the building to blend naturally into its surroundings. Aesthetics should not compromise stability, and vice versa.

The sides of our platforms are designed in the form of artificial rocks, giving the object a visual resemblance to a real small island. This theming – made of a solid 316 stainless steel frame, filled with 2K polyurethane foam (60 kg/m³) and coated with polyurea with quartz sand – is extremely resistant to wave impacts and salt spray. The materials have been carefully calculated to contribute to the overall mass and lower center of gravity of the object, further increasing stability in the chosen micro-location.

Leave the analysis to the experts

Do you have an ideal cove in mind, but you're not sure if it's technically feasible for a facility? Our engineering team will conduct a detailed location analysis and create a 3D model tailored exactly to your conditions.

Contact us and ensure that your vision on the water stands on a solid foundation.

Analiza djelovanja vjetrova, morskih struja i dubine dna za dugoročnu stabilnost na moru.
